Fall Wish List

Fall is one of our favorite seasons for fashion.  Chunky sweaters, rich colors, and lush fabrics overtake our wardrobes, and no outfit is complete without a beanie.
Working in retail, we are surrounded by all of the latest fall looks and trends, and we have already accumulated quite the wish list.  Here are just a few things that we have found ourselves lusting after.

Dr. Martens

Oh, but not just any Dr. Martens my friends.  Oh, no.  Burgundy Dr. Martens.  I have never been much of a red girl.  But this particular shade has completely stolen my heart.  And with the grunge trend on the rise, what could be a better fall wardrobe addition.

All Plaid Everything
Katie & I are both loving the resurgence of plaid & tartan, & with grunge emerging as one of fall's hottest trends, we're going to be seeing a lot of it.  But what is really making me lust after this particular print is the unexpected ways that it is being used.  I mean, how can you not love tartan track pants and plaid maxi dresses?

A Killer Coat
I have a weakness for coats and absolutely no need for another, but this coat in particular has been pulling at my heartstring for weeks now.  Is it the biker chic look that attracts me?  Or perhaps that incredible print?  Whatever it may be, I'm hooked.  What's fall without a fabulous new coat anyway, right?

Listening In

"The beautiful disturber of air"

Music is always there for you. It teaches you about yourself, it feels your pain, it understands your happiness, and it knows the real you - no physical means necessary. It is a timeless and everlasting place that you can take comfort in, no matter if you prefer Beethoven or Snoop Dogg (Snoop Lion?). It is your best and truest friend. Thus, I've chosen to share how music is just as important to me, creatively speaking, as fashion and art is. Let's take a look at what we're listening in to this week in our dimension. No particular order.

Five
"The Warmth" - Incubus, Make Yourself

First things first: if you must know anything about me, it is that I am a die-hard Incubus and Brandon Boyd fan. I'm a 90's child at heart, and although Incubus is more of a "mid-to-late nineties era" band, I still get that nostalgic sense of the classic rock decade that the nineties brought when I listen to Incubus. The first time I ever saw Brandon Boyd was while watching this '99 live Incubus performance.

Four
"Loxstep" - Annuals, Sweet Sister

The annuals are a band that my brother introduced me to a while back. They've got a unique and meaningful, yet easy-going sound. This song always reminds me of my first day of college, nervously driving to class in my '94 Buick as the Sweet Sister album came through my speakers.

Three
"Vampires In Love " - A Great Big Pile of Leaves,
Have You Seen My Prefrontal Cortex?

A couple of good friends and I went to see Say Anything live at Starland Ballroom in 2010. A Great Big Pile of Leaves opened for them, and we were not disappointed. Fast forward two years to AGBPOL's live performance at the local bowling alley, The Asbury Lanes; not only was the show freaking awesome, but we also got to meet and take a picture with the lead singer, Pete! These guys are seriously talented and make some great music... I encourage you to listen.

Two
"Right Outside" - Anthony Green featuring Chino Moreno,
  Beautiful Things

Anthony Green has a very distinct sound/voice, so when teamed up with Deftones frontman Chino Moreno, obviously magical things happen, such as this song. It's got a very dreamy, almost haunting feel and is, for lack of a less understating word, very beautiful. Again, another find with the help from my musically inclined brother.

One

"I Guess I'm Floating" - M83, Before the Dawn Heels Us.

This delicate song proves just how deep and emotion evoking a 2 minute song consisting of basically six notes can be. It is humble in that it does not have any words, fancy instruments or intense breakdowns. It is moving enough as is, and I find it to be an outstanding piece of music. M83 has always been a project of which nothing else quite matches up to, and cannot be necessarily categorized, or compared, for that matter, to other music that is around these days. I'd like to think of M83 as group of brilliant musicians, and I hope you think so too :)

Enjoy this weeks sounds while you're living inspired.

A Little Early Morning Inspiration

What a better way to start the day than with a bit of inspiration, huh? Start off the day with an invigorated mind and a refreshed spirit.
There is something about the juxtaposition of natural and geometric images that is so interesting & alluring & a bit unexpected. It makes you go back for that second look and draws you in. Wouldn't these make amazing wall prints?

Live inspired, lovelies.

Flea Market Excursions

There is nothing quite like a good Flea Market trip.  The unique finds, the variety of vendors, & the tables of treasures just waiting to be discovered; what could be any better? So after hearing about the Golden Nugget Flea Market in Lambertville, NJ we new we had to make a trip of it. It was such a treasure trove! There were tables upon tables of vintage jewelry, turquoise everywhere you looked, bins of old vinyl records that we could have spent all day sifting through, & an entire room of Navajo inspired decor that was hard to walk away from. While Katie exerted some serious self control, I was not so good & walked away with some amazing vintage rings & Native American arrowheads that will most likely be made into necklaces the next time I'm feeling crafty.

How amazing would those wooden window panes be as jewelry displays? We love. & we simply could not resist snapping a picture with Gumby!

What are your favorite flea market spots? We love hearing from our readers!
